Hiring a car in Thailand is pretty straightforward and a great way of seeing the country. While renting or hiring a car in Bangkok maybe isn't such a great idea, other parts of Thailand are perfectly set up to explore by road. We tried our hand at driving in Thailand with a self drive vehicle in Northern Thailand, Chiang Mai, Pai and Mae Hon Son, Chiang Rai, Mae Salong and … [Read more...]
Phuket is one of Thailand's islands in the Andaman Sea, to the west of mainland Thailand. It has some of Thailand’s most popular beaches and destinations and is hugely popular with tourists. Most beaches are along Phuket's west coast where waters are clear and blue. You will find many luxury resorts on Phuket but the island is less popular with long term travellers or backpackers although it is possible to visit Phuket in this way. Restaurants come at all price points, some good, some bad. Phuket City is the capital and here you will find the picturesque and characterful Old Town. The island has plentiful night markets for tourists and locals. Patong is the main tourist town and has a dubious reputation because of it's many bars and massage establishments.

Novotel Phuket Karon Beach … [Read more...]

Phuket is sadly an island with a bad reputation and we found the cess pit that is Patong to be best avoided at … [Read more...]

We checked in for a few nights to take a break from long-term family travel, to relax, pamper and unwind after 5 weeks exploring Thailand. Our stay coincided with the Phuket Ironman event my husband was competing in, perfect location, perfect … [Read more...]
Yesterday my husband, chef and dad at World Travel Family, competed in the Ironman Thailand Phuket half distance Ironman event. This was his second event in a couple of months, most recently he completed a full distance Ironman event in Tenby, Wales. ( See photos and write up on Ironman Wales 2016 here). We travel the world competing in these events, usually sharing some images … [Read more...]
